Bobcat: a schedule of routine excavator maintenance is important for machine’s functioning

Selecting an excavator that provides easy access to engine components and routine maintenance items is important for cutting down service time. It helps keep your excavator in good working order so you can reduce operating costs and stay profitable.

Machine Maintenance Access

When choosing an excavator, look for access points on the tailgate and panels that open as wide or as high as possible, so you can easily access all the major components for mini excavator maintenance. Also, be sure to note the location and accessibility of the:

  • Hydraulic oil fill, gauge and tank
  • Air filter
  • Fuel filter
  • Accessory belts
  • Alternator
  • Starter
  • Battery
  • Control valve
  • Engine coolant bottle and fill
  • Cooling core

Excavator Maintenance Schedule

A schedule of routine excavator maintenance is important for keeping your machine up and running. So when components and parts are difficult to access, it makes maintaining your machine much harder than it needs to be. This could cost you time and money down the road. Check your Operation & Maintenance Manual for a complete list of maintenance needs and service intervals.

Daily Maintenance Checks

In addition to your regular maintenance schedule, it’s important to conduct daily checks of your machine to ensure it’s in top working order. During a routine inspection, check the machine’s tracks, rollers, idlers and drive sprockets for any leaks or excessive wear. Make sure the machine’s filters and fluid levels are checked regularly as well and keep a healthy stock of filters and fluids on hand should your machine require a replacement. Stock up on both regular maintenance parts and high-wear replacement parts to be prepared for preventive and special maintenance. This keeps your equipment running smoothly during the busy months.
